Healthy Habits - NDIS Capacity Building Program

Healthy Habits is a 10-week group program designed to help participants build practical daily living skills, with a focus on independent cooking and healthy meal preparation.

The program is ideal for participants who want to increase their kitchen confidence, develop routines for nutrition and self-care, and engage in a supportive small-group setting. Participants also benefit from opportunities to connect with others, practice teamwork, and build social confidence.

Healthy Habits was created to meet the need for structured, hands-on programs that support independence, well-being, and practical life skills. It is suitable for people with a primary diagnosis of psychosocial (mental health), autism spectrum disorder (level 1 -2) and/or mild to moderate intellectual disabilities (including acquired brain injuries).

When: Once a week

Group size: 3-5 participants + facilitator

Suitability: This program is for participants that are suited to small group settings, are living semi-independently, and who are looking to increase their healthy habits


Format

Healthy Habits follows a structured routine designed to help participants build practical life skills, healthy routines, and social confidence. Each session includes:

  • Morning catch-up

  • Light exercise

  • Fun activity or game

  • Stretching

  • Skill development session

  • Group cooking

  • Group lunch

This consistent routine supports independence, confidence, and the development of sustainable, healthy habits.


Eligibility

Participants should meet the following criteria:

  • Have sufficient funding in either:

    • Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living or

    • Capacity Building – Development of Daily Living and Life Skills
      (10 weeks; 30 hours; total cost $867.90 - approx.)

  • Be suited to a small group setting

  • Be able to manage transport (assistance may be available for an additional fee)

  • Be living independently or semi-independently

This program is not suited to participants who require 24-hour supported care.
