Recovery Coaching
Recovery Coaching (RC) (formerly known as Psychosocial Recovery Coaching) is a specialised support service for NDIS participants with a psychosocial disability. An RC works with participants to build skills, increase independence, and take greater control over their daily lives. This includes practical support, goal-setting, and strategies to manage challenges, all delivered in a person-centred way. RCs collaborate with participants, their families, and other support providers to understand individual needs, connect participants with relevant services, support engagement with mental health services, and help them use their NDIS funding effectively to achieve meaningful outcomes.
What Sets Our RC’s Apart?:
Our Recovery Coaches bring extensive experience supporting participants with mental health challenges, particularly those with complex needs. Many have spent 5+ years working as Allied Health Assistants (AHAs), gaining valuable hands-on experience and insight into participant needs. This experience informs their work as a RC, enabling them to provide practical, goal-focused, and empowering support.
Important: Recovery Coaches operate in a dedicated role separate from their AHA work, with separate billing and service structures to ensure clarity and transparency for participants and funding.
Checking Eligibility and Funding for Recovery Coaching:
RC is generally available for NDIS participants with psychosocial support needs, particularly those who would benefit from practical, goal-focused assistance to increase independence, manage daily challenges, and work toward their recovery goals.
To check if a participant has funding for RC:
Review the NDIS plan - Look for sections related to psychosocial supports, capacity building, to see if RC is included.
Speak with the NDIS Planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) – confirm whether RC hours are included in the plan or can be added.
Consult the Plan Manager – on which funds can be allocated to RC and assist further to confirm hours available in an existing plan.
Getting Started:
Participants with existing funding available to work with a Recovery Coach can arrange a 30-minute introductory session to learn more about Recovery Coaching and meet their RC. These sessions are:
Informal and relaxed, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and explore the service
Billed as a session, separate from other services
Face-to-face or via Telehealth
This introductory session allows participants to experience the support, understand how it works, and decide if it’s the right fit before committing to ongoing RC support.
